Peek a Little Further

The tools and gadgets that make it happen.

Camilla's kitchen
This was the kitchen I designed in my first home in Gothenburg, a total gut-renovation. This features Nordiska Kök with a gorgeous white creek marble!

Working in the kitchen means that you need tools that help you create your vision, and the best way to do that is to choose the best tools possible. Here is my list of the things I've absolutely loved throughout the years.

“I couldn't survive without them.”On the Sori Yanagi tongs

On the stove

Yukihira saucepan, 20 cm, Yoshikawa It's just gorgeous: that hammered steel exterior and the wooden handle, handmade in Tsubame-Sanjō, Japan's renowned metalworking hub. I love that you can use it on induction, and it feels like a really nice quality saucepan. It comes in many different sizes, and I have it in about four. I found them first at Vallgatan 12 in Gothenburg, then on a site in Japan that sends them to you really quickly.

Slotted kitchen tongs, Sori Yanagi I couldn't survive without them. I use them to lift greens and veggies out when I blanch them, to turn chicken, basically for anything when I'm cooking.

IDEALISK tongs, stainless steel, IKEA A cheaper version, for when you want to do some professional plating or just toss a couple of things really quickly.

Baker's Dozen wood spoons, small, Sir/Madam How fabulous are these? I couldn't believe that they sold them all like this: all different sizes and shapes, one-stop shopping, and absolutely incredible. I've had them for 10 years now, and they still look brand new.

Prep, bake & squeeze

Ebony kitchen knife, 10 cm, Pallarès · in The Nourish Kit This is my version of the Mora knife in the kitchen. I do everything with it: peel fruit and veggies, chop things up really quickly, even split chicken directly in the saucepan. That's why I chose it for the Nourish Kit. Find it in The Nourish Kit.

VARDAGEN knife set, 3 pieces, IKEA Surprisingly sharp knives, really good quality and not too expensive for what you get.

Professional Series 2.0 fine grater, Microplane I don't know what I would do without it. I use it for everything from cheese to chocolate to citrus zest. Microplane is fantastic, but I really like the fine grater the most.

Grøntsagsbørste (vegetable brush), Beau Marché This just makes cleaning vegetables that much easier. Most of the nutrients are right underneath the skin, so you don't want to peel your veggies; you want to use a vegetable brush to clean them. (Note that I usually buy organic veggies.)

Margrethe bowls, set of 3, Rosti The classic Scandinavian mixing bowls. I have them in three different sizes, so they work for all sorts of things, from baking to making waffle mix in the morning for my kids. I use them constantly.

Dual citrus squeezer, Crate & Barrel I usually use a fork, but if not, this is the way to go. It's the way to get the most juice out.

Naturals sheet pans, set of 3, Nordic Ware I use these constantly to quickly roast things in the oven, and because they come in three different sizes, you can do just some small individual veggies.

“You need a little colour.”On the Adèle Beaumais platter

Store & serve

365+ food container with lid, glass, 1 l, IKEA I do some food prep, and I use the glass containers with a plastic lid. That way I can see what's inside and stack them really easily. And because I travel between Stockholm and Gothenburg, I can take my little food boxes back and forth.

Food storage clips, Onyx Kitchen I use these for everything. I like the feel of stainless steel, as opposed to those plastic ones that I always feel don't really work. I use them to seal everything from chip bags to flour bags to my coffee.

Middy glass, mouth-blown crystal, BOBO Just gorgeous. I found them first at Schmaltz, and I think anything you serve in them looks divine, whether it's a beer, a cocktail or just lemonade.

PEEP bowl, 35 cm, Pottery Jo It has such a tactile quality. It's heavy, and you feel like you can bake in it, prep bread in it and serve beautiful things in it. Absolutely stunning, and at a really nice price point.

Trio grand plat ovale, rouge et rose, Adèle Beaumais How cute? This just makes your kitchen look that much more beautiful, whether you're serving beets, a simple cheese plate or whatever you want. You need a little colour.

Tapestry Lion Face plate, handmade, Charlotte Salt · The Shop Floor Project Also adorable. I like to stack things on top of it, like charred broccoli or Jerusalem artichoke, and then the little lion face comes forward as you're eating.

Vase 04, Mix Sicily, 35 cm, Ottolenghi × Serax I use it as a water jug.

I consider these the essentials! Not sure I could grab all of these if the house was on fire, though.
